RSN Certificate, Jacobean crewelwork, Day 2 and 3

This day 2, I get up really early at 5.45 am because of the jet lag (2 hours). The weather was really nice so I decided to walk along the Thames. The light on the river was beautiful, and the place so peaceful.

This morning of work on day 2 didn’t start really well. The tutor of the day looked at my stitch plan and decided to change a lot, some propositions were nice, but I really didn’t like others. I decided to think about it later and luckily all the stitches she proposed for the day were nice.

I sart with a trellis in my bird wing. Then I did a shaded laid work. First, I had to do a split stitch for the outline of an hillock,  but because I didn’t understood where I had to do it, I had to unpick it 2 times. Finally, as we say in French “the third time is the good one” and I manage to finish my laid work just before lunch.

Because it was a frustrating morning and the day was wonderfully sunny, I decided a walk in the garden will be really welcome and restful.

After the lunch I started block shading for one of my hillocks and stem stitch for one of my stem. The tutor advised me to mix accent colours (yellow) with green. The idea was really nice.

On day 2, it was again changes in the stitch plan. Because I am in intensive course (I’m there for a week), they have to show me a maximum of stitches, in a certain order. So the tutor proposed new ideas, again I decided to think about it later.

First, I started with raised stem band for my other stem. I really wanted this stitch for my embroidery. I decided to add a hole in the tree to create relief. So it was really tricky to go around this hole, specially I started the raised stem band in the middle.

Then I had to do stem stitch for the leaves of the flower. At first, I wanted long and short, but it seemed too long to embroider and I had to move. Finally at the end of the day I only did a bit of raised stem band and stem stitch around a leaf and I didn’t like it. So at the end of day 2, my mindset was not very good : I was annoyed, frustrated and really thinking “what I am doing here !”.

After a tea break and nice family phone call, I decided I had to be happy with my embroidery and my design. So I unpicked the stem stitch and started in the evening the long and short by myself.
